(WP) D62-2186 Reports that the concerns with over population with its food and water shortages may have been more over reaction than fact. The last census shows that the current population is 55,551. The report issued today states, The current population shows that there is little concern that we will run out of food or water in the foreseeable future. The original census may have been in error. The BFAWS has formed a committee to investigate the counting process.

This story is prompted by a radio report- followed two days later by front-page headlines in the newspaper stating that there were now an estimated 3000 bears in Florida. The state felt that interaction between bears and people were becoming more frequent so the solution was to issue hunting permits to remove a “limited number of bears” because their population had rebounded since they were nearly hunted to extinction.
As of this last week, the state has condoned the hunt. One person interviewed said, “I would rather see the bears hunted instead of starving to death.”

Maybe the bears should issue permits to hunt the invaders on their land. I get it, but the cold way it was presented, front page, above the fold screaming headlines. I hope that when my grandchildren grown up there is something here besides a few trees and 14 red squirrels.
